DPP Warns JPs to Stop Charging Fees, Urges Integrity and Fairness

Director of Public Prosecutions Claudette Thompson has warned Justices of the Peace (JPs) to stop charging for services, stressing that it is illegal.

Speaking at a recent graduation ceremony, she reminded JPs that their role is a voluntary civic duty requiring integrity and fairness.

She criticized reports of some JPs displaying price lists and engaging in practices that bring the office into disrepute.

Thompson also urged them to remain impartial and not be influenced by personal interests or relationships.

She nonetheless commended the graduates for their dedication and commitment to the justice system.
