A recent interview Reggae Sumfest boss Joe Bogdonavich gave with local media is sparking conversation around the opportunities young artistes are afforded to grace one of the biggest stages in Jamaican music.
Bogdonavich answered the question of what young artistes would have to do to achieve a headlining placement at his legendary show by saying they would have to earn it, suggesting young artistes rarely have the attitude necessary to do so.
"They have to earn their way up...they have to behave properly, to think about others besides themselves, how to be there on time. How to make it easier on everyone who's working there on your behalf young artiste that knows everything...The reason why a Bounty and Beenie lasts for so long, they just made better records."
The clip was posted on Instagram and had viewers polarized. Some commentators agreed with Bogdonavich, saying "Headliners have catalogues of music to pick, choose and refuse to perform a good 30-45mins or even longer" and "Listen to Joe, he just gave them the blueprint fi buss internationally and stay relevant" while others held such opinions like one commentator who said "Young ppl time now joe..Force wi force".
Dancehall artiste Skippa, who has been enjoying a fiery run, ending 2025 with his breakout hit WYFL and plotting an intense 2026 takeover, responded this morning via his Instagram stories.
