The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has apologised after Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor said a security guard shoved her during the final moments of the ceremony.
Footage that circulated online showed Taylor confronting someone off-camera, accusing a guard of putting his hands on her and calling the behaviour “very rude.” She can be heard saying, “Do not touch me, do not shove me,” as other attendees tried to calm the situation.
The Academy said it was “extremely upset” to learn about the incident, noting that the guard worked for outside firm Security Industry Specialists, Inc.. In a statement, the organisation praised Taylor as “remarkable, supportive and kind,” while stressing that the experience of every guest remains its responsibility.
Security Industry Specialists also addressed the situation, describing it as a brief interaction that involved “incidental contact” and saying the matter had been handled internally.
Taylor later told reporters that security was “doing a lot,” but said she simply does not tolerate disrespect. especially when it’s “unwarranted and unprovoked.”
