President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association,Mark Malabver, says the group will give the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development three weeks to relocate shelterees from schools.

Malabver says a letter outlining the request will be sent to the Ministry today.

He made the announcement at the JTA’s post-Hurricane Melissa National Thanksgiving Service yesterday.

He says the continued use of schools as shelters since the hurricane has raised safety concerns.

Mark Malabver says the Jamaica Teachers’ Association will escalate its advocacy if the issue is not resolved within three weeks.

He warned that further action will be taken if shelterees are not relocated from schools.

The Association says it is prepared to intensify its push with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development.

Malabver says the move is aimed at protecting the safety of students and teachers.
