Millions of voters in Nepal have cast ballots in the country’s first general election since protests last September toppled the government.
The uprising, driven by anger over corruption, economic stagnation and inequality, left 77 people dead, many of them protesters shot by police.
Nearly 19 million people were registered to vote for the 275 seats in the House of Representatives of Nepal, including about one million first-time voters.
Officials from the Election Commission Nepal say turnout is expected to be around 60%, with results likely next week due to the country’s mountainous terrain and manual vote counting.
