Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has issued a public apology for his history of antisemitic remarks, calling his past behaviour reckless and deeply harmful.
In a full-page ad published today in The Wall Street Journal, beginning with "To the black community - which held me down through all of the highs and lows and the darkest of times...I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us", Ye continued, writing plainly: “I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people” following years of inflammatory statements, including comments earlier this year openly praising Adolf Hitler and identified himself as a Nazi. These remarks sparked widespread backlash and led Adidas, a longtime collaborator, to sever ties.
Ye attributed his behaviour to an undiagnosed brain injury from a car accident 25 years ago, which he says was only properly identified in 2023 and contributed to severe mental health challenges, including his bipolar disorder. He described entering what he called a prolonged manic episode in early 2025, saying he became detached from reality and gravitated toward destructive symbolism.
The rapper has since sought treatment, crediting medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, and encouragement from his wife, Bianca Censori. The apology comes just days ahead of the release of Bully, out on January 30.
