Taxi group TODSS, concerned that increase in JUTC fleet will result in a reduction in business for PPV operators

The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODDS), has expressed concern that the increase in Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) fleet, will result in a reduction in business for taxi operators. TODSS President Egeton Newman noted that the investment of private taxi operators is at risk. He also expressed concern about operators struggling to earn enough now, as they anxiously await the implementation of the second part of the fare increase. Speaking at a TODSS virtual meeting last evening, Newman said operators are hopeful that the 16% fare increase will be granted in November, as promised by the government. He pointed out that, with more JUTC buses on the road, when schools resume in September, taxi operators stand to incur significant losses. Newman called on Transport Minister Daryl Vaz to help alleviate the operator’s plight.
