Spice Begins Her Donation Efforts with Building Supplies

Share

It's been a week since Dancehall star Spice pledged her commitment to providing support for Jamaicans displaced by Hurricane Melissa, and she is definitely delivering on her promise. Yesterday, the artiste, with a convoy of trucks, coaster buses, and SUVs, made her way to Bethel Town in St. Elizabeth with much-needed aid.

Spice, real name Grace Hamilton, shared last week that she was on her way to Jamaica, urging displaced persons or persons close to them to reach out to her via her Grace Hamilton Foundation. In an update post today, the Go Down Deh singer shared that yesterday she rented 10 trucks and filled them with what she calls "starter packages to build houses".

Spice shared: "I’ve been doing what I can to help build back Jamaica One House at a time...Each truck had Blocks, Cement, steel, zinc 1x3x16 Pine Lumber, Ply boards,2x4x16 Boards , nails and Hurricane Straps. I also had to rent a Backhoe Truck and a Dumpster truck to clear the road because the trees blocked the way that had fallen from Hurricane Melissa making it impossible for trucks to drive up the hill."

The widely regarded Queen of the Dancehall went on to report that she also included packages from her clothing brand Graci Noir, the apparel label she founded in 2020.

The video Spice posted accompanying her update showed her carrying out her operations in collaboration with the Jamaica Defense Force, which she said was instrumental in the day’s distributions and logistics. The star gave special thanks to Senior Superintendent of Police Damion Manderson, Commanding Officer for St Andrew South Division, for his leadership.

Spice delivered this aid fresh off of her JamRock cruise performance and her 3-day stint at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena alongside the crowned ‘King of the Dancehall’, Vybz Kartel, who is leading his own Hurricane Melissa relief efforts with his Adidjah Palmer Foundation.
