Parcels to U.S. Suspended as Jamaica Post Responds to New Trade Rules

Share

Jamaica Post has temporarily halted the acceptance of parcels and packets, destined for the United States, following major changes to U.S. trade policy that remove duty-free exemptions on low-value imports.

The move follows notification to the state-owned postal service, regarding an Executive Order issued by the U.S. Administration on July 30.

The order eliminates the long-standing de minimis rule, which previously allowed packages valued at under US$800 to enter the U.S. without incurring duties.

Effective this Friday, the measure applies worldwide, requiring all international parcels to be processed under the U.S. Customs and Border Protection tariff system.
