Beckford Exudes Confidence After Copping National 800m Title

Newly crowned national 800m champion Kelly-Ann Beckford is beaming with confidence after delivering a career-best performance at last month’s Jamaica National Athletics Championships.

The 25-year-old middle-distance runner produced a stunning effort to secure her first senior women’s 800m title, clocking a personal best time of 2:00.23 minutes. While just shy of the World Athletics Championships qualifying mark of 1:59.00, Beckford’s breakthrough run marks a significant step forward in her development.

“This was the performance of my life so far,” said an elated Beckford. “I knew I had it in me, and to execute it when it mattered most is a huge confidence booster.”

Her performance not only solidifies her status as Jamaica’s top 800m contender but also sends a clear message that she is edging closer to the sub-2:00 barrier — a hallmark of world-class status in women’s middle-distance running.

Beckford now turns her focus to upcoming international meets, where she hopes to further lower her time and secure a spot at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
