The National Hurricane Center raised the likelihood of development for a system Friday morning in the southern Caribbean to a 70% chance of becoming the next tropical depression or tropical storm over the weekend.

It says the system has a 70% chance of formation in the next 48 hours.

If the system does develop into a tropical storm it will be the 28th named storm of the season, named the Greek letter Eta. It would be the first time Eta was ever used for a storm.

Meanwhile, the remnants of Hurricane Zeta dissipated in the north Atlantic early Friday, but people across the Southeastern region were still digging out from the powerful storm that killed six people.
