The Jamaica Public Service, JPS, is reporting that approximately 525 streetlights have been stolen across the island since the start of the year.

Public and Media Relations Manager at JPS, Audrey Williams states that the highest incidences of streetlight theft occurred in Portmore, Linstead and Guy’s Hill in St. Catherine, Port Maria in St. Mary, Ocho Rios in St. Ann and Montego Bay in St. James.

Noting that the JPS is continuously trying to upgrade and repair streetlights, Mrs. Williams says thieves are not only hampering the work of the JPS but are also reducing the benefits customers should experience.
