Jamaica is celebrating its 63rd Independence anniversary today (Wed) at the National Stadium in Kingston with the annual Grand Gala, themed ‘Be Proud, Be Bold, in Black, Green and Gold.’
The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport through the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission JCDC.
Around 2,500 participants, including uniformed groups and dancers, will take part in the celebration. The program will highlight the inscription of Port Royal as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and celebrate reggae music by honoring three renowned reggae artists Leroy Sibbles, Capleton, and Beres Hammond, with the Reggae Icon award. The event will also include a gospel music segment.
The celebrations will conclude with a reggae concert featuring Luciano and Chris Martin, accompanied by fireworks at the National Stadium and in parish capitals.
Additionally, the popular drone show will return this year, promising an even bigger and better Independence celebration.
