The number of people killed in traffic crashes since the start of the year has risen to 175, according to the Island Traffic Authority’s (ITA) latest crash statistics released on Friday, June 13.

These fatalities have resulted from 158 fatal crashes, the ITA reported.

Despite the grim toll, the Authority noted a 5 per cent decrease in fatalities compared to the same period in 2024. Fatal crashes are also slightly down, by 1 per cent, year-on-year.

A breakdown of the data shows that motorcyclists remain the most vulnerable group on the roads, accounting for 48 deaths, or 27 per cent of all fatalities since January 1.

Pedestrians follow with 39 deaths (22 per cent), while private motor vehicle drivers account for 36 fatalities (21 per cent), and passengers in private motor vehicles represent 27 deaths (15 per cent).
