Lobby groups across Jamaica continue to fight for the public's access to once public beaches, that are now under the ownership of the Urban Development Corporation UDC.

The Winnifred beach in Portland, and the One Love Fall and Little Dunn's River in Saint Ann, are among popular beaches where Jamaican bathers are either being denied access of have been locked out. Chairperson of Free Winnifred Beach Benevolent Society, Carla Gullota, says the group is facing varied struggles, in having it remain a public beach. The matter is before the court, and according to Ms Gullota, The UDC had decided to lease the beach to private owners.
