Dr. Jimmy Cliff is nominated for the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Other performing nominees for the 2019 class include Mariah Carey, Vince Gill, Mike Love, Cat Stevens, and Missy Elliot, who is the first female rapper to be nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, whose real name is James Chambers, has been nominated for 3 consecutive years since 2017 and is renowned for a slew of hits such as “Many Rivers to Cross”, “You Can Get It If You Really Want”, “The Harder They Come”, and “Reggae Night.”

Songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit songs for at least 20 years.

Six songwriters, or songwriting groups, will be officially inducted at a gala in New York on June 13, 2019.
