Nicki shouts out Jamaica, Caribbean, in new album, ‘Queen’


The Dancehall fraternity and the wider Caribbean have been embracing the steady boost in the culture over the years in hip hop and pop music.

Nicki Minaj continues this trend with her latest project, Queen, which pays homage to her Caribbean roots, when she teamed up with longtime friend and fellow Trini-american rapper Foxy Brown.

The “Coco Chanel” track also samples legendary Jamaican producer Dave Kelly’s late 90s riddim “Showtime”.

On the outro of the her album, Nicki listed a host of Caribbean and dancehall artistes as her inspiration in music.

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is currently basking in the excitement and records she has broken since her “Queen” album’s release yesterday.
